Free FAFSA

Change has come to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • The date the FAFSA is available has changed from January 1 of senior year to October 1 of senior year.
  • The income tax information you will use to file has also changed. You will use what is called Prior-Prior Year Tax Returns. (PPY)

When can you file your FAFSA?

Students are encouraged to check with each college to which they are applying to verify their FAFSA priority filing deadline.

The FAFSA is always free and completed online at https://fafsa.ed.gov/.

By completing the FAFSA, students become eligible for campus-based scholarships and grants (both merit and need-based), work-study programs, Pell Grants and various student loan programs.

Filling out the FAFSA is a common requirement for states, schools and private scholarships offering financial aid. It is recommended that all students submit a FAFSA regardless of income their first year of college.
