Summer Assignments

reading

The purpose of summer assignments is to continue skill practice and to develop necessary "habits of mind" beyond the school year. Summer assignments promote an early start to academic thinking and skill application while supporting common literary experiences that foster immediate instructional opportunities once students arrive on campus in August. We hope you find this resource helpful.

If you have questions regarding the seven choices provided for Pre-AP English II, please contact your building administrator. Your building administrator will assist you with additional reading selections that align with the expectations for the class.

If you have any questions regarding other summer reading lists or assignments, your campus administrator may assist you as well. For follow-up questions, please contact Chrysta Carlin, the executive director of secondary curriculum.

Summer Reading For All

Every middle and high school student in LISD is expected to read a book of their choice this summer. Students need to be prepared to discuss their reading with classmates and English/Language Arts teachers next school year.

Athletes, musicians, and dancers know that if you were not to practice your skills for several months, your skills would diminish. The same applies to reading. Research shows that if you do not read for several months, you lose some of your skill. Visit our Summer Reading for ALL FAQ page to learn more about the research? on summer reading, how to find a good book, ways parents can help their children with reading, and much more. Enjoy your reading!
